The Ben Johnson-led Chicago Bears majorly exceeded expectations in 2025. Heading into 2026, they will look to take another step forward by making a high-profile offseason addition.
One name to watch is De’Von Achane, who has emerged as a potential trade target amid the Miami Dolphins’ continued fire sale. While reports indicate Miami is currently resistant to moving the young star, the team’s massive roster purge has kept the league on high alert.
Bears Named Top Landing Spot for De’Von Achane
This past week, PFSN’s Cameron Sheath published an article outlining six potential landing spots for Achane.
Among them, he ranked the Chicago Bears as the top destination and explained why the star running back could land in the Windy City.
He wrote: “The Chicago Bears performed outstandingly on the ground in 2025, mostly thanks to their offensive line, 60% of which was made up of new signings, including left guard, right guard, and center. That transformation continued recently, with the team sending a 2027 fifth-round pick to the New England Patriots for Garrett Bradbury after the retirement of star center Drew Dalman.”
“Ben Johnson appears to have his power back in 2025 seventh-round pick Kyle Monangai, and veteran D’Andre Swift was also a key contributor in Johnson’s first season. Swift is a free agent in 2027, though, and the Bears could save almost $7 million in cap space with a post-June 1 cut,” he added.
“Swift hasn’t done anything wrong, but he was a player Johnson inherited when he took over in Chicago, and the opportunity to add Achane could be too good to pass on.”
Comparing De’Von Achane and D’Andre Swift
This past season, Achane handled 238 carries for 1,350 rushing yards and 12 total touchdowns. He was also outstanding in the receiving game for Miami, hauling in 67 passes for 488 yards.
Comparatively, Swift carried the ball 223 times for 1,087 yards and nine touchdowns, along with 34 receptions and one receiving score. According to PFSN’s RB Impact metric, Achane posted an 87.1 RB Impact Score, ranking second among all running backs, while Swift recorded an 80.6 score, which placed seventh.
As Sheath noted, Swift may become a cap casualty after June 1. With additional cap space to spend, Chicago may look to upgrade at running back and bring in a star like Achane. Notably, during his time coordinating in Detroit, coach Johnson’s offense thrived by utilizing both an elusive back and a power back.

A move for Achane may not be so far-fetched, as Miami recently released Tyreek Hill and Tua Tagovailoa, and traded Jaylen Waddle to the Denver Broncos. Without a doubt, teams will be calling to acquire Achane, and the Bears will likely be among them.
Between Johnson, Caleb Williams, a strong offensive line, and potentially a running back duo consisting of Achane and soon-to-be second-year runner Monangai, the Bears will once again be dangerous in 2026.
