Cee Dee Lamb Enters Concussion Protocol After Injury Thursday Night
Dallas Cowboys wide receiver CeeDee Lamb entered the NFL’s concussion protocol after exiting Thursday’s 44-30 loss to the Detroit Lions with a head injury. Lamb sustained the concussion in the third quarter when his head struck the turf while attempting to secure a pass in the end zone.
Lamb had six catches for 121 yards before leaving the game. The performance marked his second consecutive 100-yard outing after recording 112 yards and a touchdown against Kansas City on Thanksgiving. He demonstrated a fencing response with his arms extended after hitting the ground, prompting immediate medical attention.
The 26-year-old wideout was evaluated in the blue medical tent before being ruled out for the remainder of the contest. Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott rushed to check on Lamb immediately following the play. Medical staff took Lamb to the locker room for further examination shortly after he emerged from the tent.
Lamb missed three games earlier this season with a high ankle sprain suffered in Week 3 against the Chicago Bears. If he cannot clear concussion protocol for Week 15, this would mark his fourth missed contest of the 2025 campaign. He also missed two games at the end of the 2024 season with a shoulder injury and one game in 2021 due to a concussion.
The timing provides some benefit for Lamb’s recovery. Dallas does not play again until Sunday night against the Minnesota Vikings at AT&T Stadium. The 10-day gap between Thursday’s game and the Week 15 matchup gives Lamb additional time to progress through the five-step concussion protocol.
George Pickens, Ryan Flournoy, KaVontae Turpin and Jonathan Mingo remain as the Cowboys’ receiving options if Lamb cannot play. Pickens leads Dallas with 1,142 yards and eight touchdowns through 12 games. He caught five passes for 37 yards against the Lions after Lamb’s departure.
Dallas enters Week 15 with a 6-6-1 record following the loss to Detroit. The Cowboys sit outside the NFC playoff picture and face a critical matchup against Minnesota in prime time. The Vikings hold a 4-7 record after their Week 13 loss to Seattle.
Lamb’s 121 yards Thursday tied Tony Hill for the second-most 100-yard receiving games in Cowboys franchise history with 26. Hall of Famer Michael Irvin holds the franchise record with 47 such performances. Lamb has five 100-yard games in 10 appearances this season.
The Cowboys have struggled to maintain offensive consistency throughout 2025. Lamb ranks second on the team with 865 yards and three touchdowns on 57 receptions. His availability for Sunday Night Football will be determined by his progression through concussion protocol over the next several days.
Head coach Brian Schottenheimer confirmed Lamb will remain in the protocol. The Cowboys medical staff will evaluate him daily to determine when he can resume football activities and potentially return to game action against the Vikings.
