The Indianapolis Colts lost one of their top receivers during free agency. After re-signing Alec Pierce to a four-year deal, they traded Michael Pittman Jr. to the Pittsburgh Steelers, losing one of their best targets. So, adding a veteran option in free agency could be the way to go before the draft. And who better than Stefon Diggs?
Why the Colts Are a Potential Landing Spot for Stefon Diggs
One option who could join Shane Steichen’s team is Stefon Diggs. The veteran wide receiver had a productive 2025 season, but the New England Patriots decided to release him due to salary cap reasons.
He continues to be a good receiver, ranked as No. 7 in our PFSN Top 100 free agents list:
“The Indianapolis Colts came into free agency with the goal of re-signing Alec Pierce, and they managed to do exactly that. To afford his new salary, they had to trade Michael Pittman Jr. to the Pittsburgh Steelers. With over $42.2 million of cap space still left, the Colts have plenty of spending flexibility. Diggs would give Daniel Jones a top weapon in their hunt for a Super Bowl.”
The Colts cleared some of their cap space by trading away Pittman, their second-round pick in the 2020 draft. However, with Daniel Jones also signing an extension along with Pierce, the focus will be on a strong 2026 run. Diggs would be an excellent addition to the roster.
While Pierce made a name for himself by being a big-play threat on vertical routes, Diggs has a different skill set. He’s a strong route runner who was used in different ways by New England in 2025.
His ability to add yards after the catch and his routes were excellent, helping Drake Maye in the middle of the field. He could do the same in Indianapolis.
Diggs’ numbers were excellent. Returning from an ACL injury suffered in 2024, he finished the season with 85 receptions, 1,013 yards, and 4 touchdowns. His strong performances earned him an 87.0 grade in our PFSN WR Impact Metric, enough to place him at No. 4 for the season.

The Colts had one of the league’s best offenses in 2025 before Daniel Jones went down with an injury. They’ll hope that, with his recovery in the offseason, Jones can return to his best level. Giving him the perfect weapon for the middle of the field would be a good step in that direction.
Diggs is already 32. He was a fifth-round pick in the 2015 NFL Draft and, before his stint with the New England Patriots, played for the Minnesota Vikings, the Buffalo Bills, and the Houston Texans.
