The Kansas City Chiefs have one of the best offensive minds in history calling the shots.
Yet, it might be time to make some adjustments.
Former NFL quarterback Dan Orlovsky recently expressed some major concerns about Andy Reid‘s offense and believes it will be a disappointing season if they don’t do things differently.
“Unless this offense changes schematically, it cannot get back to the Super Bowl. It just doesn’t do anything that the good offenses in this league do right now. If we took Patrick [Mahomes] out, and Patrick made three or four plays and throws, that you’re like, ‘Oh my goodness.’ But that’s it right now. They don’t go underneath center and throw the football down the field enough. … If this doesn’t change, you will look back in November and December and be like, ‘Why aren’t we winning?’ This will be the reason why. If you don’t go downfield more, if you don’t get under center more, if you don’t build play-action more … this will be the reason why,” Orlovsky said.

Reid is one of the best play designers in the game, but Orlovsky has a valid point.
The Chiefs’ offense has regressed over time.
They’re not the same explosive team they were under offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy, and Matt Nagy has left a lot to be desired as his replacement.
Granted, the Chiefs don’t have Tyreek Hill anymore, but that doesn’t mean they haven’t had deep-play specialists.
Mahomes has a great arm, yet they hold him back by calling quick and short passes.
They no longer have the personnel they once had, and Travis Kelce isn’t the same player he used to be.
As such, they need to put Mahomes in a position to succeed by making the most of his mobility and quick reactions, and establishing play-action will also be crucial.
If not, they should at least try to acquire receivers that suit their current style.
However, as things stand, they no longer appear as potent.
