Former Pittsburgh Steelers offensive lineman John Leglue has retired. Leglue shared the announcement in a Monday Instagram post, thanking all who helped him during his seven-year stint in the league.
“Thank you to every coach, teammate, and organization that believed in a small town Louisiana kid and gave me the chance to live out this dream,” his caption in part wrote. “To Tulane University and every NFL team I had the honor of playing for, thank you for trusting me and allowing me to wear your colors.”
He ended the message by noting his excitement for the “next chapter.”
Leglue’s message was met with warm wishes from past Steelers teammates like Spencer Anderson, Najee Harris, Josh Dobbs, and Calvin Austin III.
Undrafted in 2019, Leglue spent the 2020-2022 seasons with Pittsburgh. Working his way up from the roster fringe, Leglue appeared in six games with five starts in 2021. He also started the team’s Wild Card loss to the Kansas City Chiefs in Ben Roethlisberger’s final game of his career.
After leaving Pittsburgh, Leglue played in just one more game. In 2023, he picked up eight offensive snaps in a Week 16 game for the Atlanta Falcons. Leglue briefly returned to the Steelers for parts of the 2024 season but did not appear in a regular-season contest. He last spent time with the Los Angeles Rams during their 2025 training camp but was waived after less than a week with the team.
Leglue, who turns 30 in April, also spent time with the Denver Broncos, New Orleans Saints, Green Bay Packers, and Tennessee Titans.
We noted Leglue for his hard work in training camp. One day, we shared Leglue working on long snapping to increase his value to the team. He also showed on-field effort as the first lineman downfield at the end of most plays.
He is one of several former Steelers to recently announce his retirement. Earlier this month, wide receiver Miles Boykin and offensive tackle Zach Banner also hung up their cleats. To begin the offseason, wide receiver Adam Thielen walked away after 12 years in the NFL, although he’s left the door cracked open to return should the right situation present itself.
