The green room is a place of happiness and anguish throughout the first round of the NFL Draft. You can feel the excitement of the aspiring athletes as they make their way on stage to shake hands with NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell.
Conversely, it will be a long night for the attendees who are not drafted in Round 1, like what happened to Will Levis in 2023. This year, the list of attendees feels particularly “light,” prompting a perennial Pro Bowler to comment on the announcement.
Cameron Jordan Takes a Friendly Jab at Pittsburgh and Steelers Star Cam Heyward
Eight-time Pro Bowl defensive end Cameron Jordan took a friendly jab at Pittsburgh Steelers defensive tackle Cam Heyward regarding the draft attendees in the Steel City. The longtime New Orleans Saints stalwart posted on X, “Does that seem light? “@CamHeyward, nobody wanna go to draft day in Pittsburgh?”
While Heyward hasn’t responded, it isn’t the first time that the two All-Pro defensive linemen have engaged in a football-related conversation. During his April 2025 appearance on Heyward’s “Not Just Football” podcast, Jordan argued that former Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger is not a first-ballot Hall of Famer. Furthermore, Jordan ranked Philip Rivers above Roethlisberger, a claim that Heyward strongly pushed back against.
Meanwhile, 16 prospects will be in the green room for the 2026 NFL Draft. Five of them are former Ohio State players, including four (Arvell Reese, Sonny Styles, Caleb Downs, and Carnell Tate) who could all go off the board within the first 10 picks. Joining them in Pittsburgh are fellow Buckeye Kayden McDonald, David Bailey, Rueben Bain Jr., Mansoor Delane, Keldric Faulk, Colton Hood, Makai Lemon, Jeremiyah Love, Francis Mauigoa, Kadyn Proctor, Jordyn Tyson, and Ty Simpson.
Some projected first-round selections, including Heisman Trophy winner Fernando Mendoza, chose to stay at home on draft night. It’s a trend that gained steam during the COVID-19 pandemic, when the league transitioned to a hybrid setup. Since then, some aspirants have preferred to share the evening with their family and friends.
The 16 prospects attending the 2026 NFL Draft are one more than the 15 prospects in the green room during last year’s draft in Green Bay. It was originally 17 until Jaxson Dart, Josh Simmons, and Mykel Williams backed out, and Maxwell Hairston was added to the list.
That turnout, though, is slightly better than the 13 attendees that were in the green room for the 2024 NFL Draft in Detroit. Quarterbacks Caleb Williams and Jayden Daniels headlined the group that was present in the Motor City.
While offseason workouts are getting underway around the NFL, Jordan remains unsigned. He has indicated that he wants to keep playing for a 16th season, and his 10.5 sacks last year prove that he can still be a viable contributor.
The question, however, is whether he will be willing to take a pay cut to join a contender. Jordan is the Saints’ all-time sacks leader, and his 132 career sacks are the 17th-most in league history. Heyward and Jordan were selected seven picks apart in the 2011 NFL Draft.
