The Jets season is just one week old and Darren Mougey is already doing a lot of roster juggling. Gang Green’s secondary has several players hurt while rookie receiver Omar Cooper is out with an ankle sprain. So it’s time for reinforcements.
Mougey has elevated defensive back Jordan Clark to the active roster with Minkah Fitzpatrick and D’Angelo Ponds set to miss a few weeks. The move makes sense as the versatile Clark has the ability to fill in at a variety of spots.
With Cooper hurt and Tim Patrick out, the team added Sterling Shepard and Tyler Johnson to the practice squad. Expect a gameday addition to be made as the Jets now have four receivers on the practice squad. Shepard and Johnson join Malik McClain and Jamaal Pritchett.
To free a roster spot for the pair, the Jets cut LB Jaden Keller. They also released Xavier Newman, an offensive lineman. Brian Costello of the New York Post relayed the update.
