With the NBA All-Star Game round-robin tournament taking place at the Intuit Dome in Inglewood, Calif., NBA fans might think that the arena would be jam-packed with fans and celebrities, too.
Well, the celebrities might be sitting courtside, but those seats throughout the Intuit Dome are looking pretty bare. The lack of attendance during NBA All-Star festivities is not just a problem for the NBA All-Star Game; it’s been a problem all weekend long.
NBA Fans Call Out Lack of Attendance at All-Star Game
A number of NBA fans, even those in attendance at the Intuit Dome, were calling out the lack of support. Empty seats seemed to be more prevalent than fans waiting to see their favorite NBA stars take to the court.
Noa Dalzell, who covers the WNBA for SB Nation and WNBA Today on CLNS, posted a photo from inside the Intuit Dome. “The All-Star game begins in 10 minutes and this place is empty,” Dalzell wrote on X, “Genuinely so confusing because a month ago I tried to buy my brother tickets and it was $1000+ to get in! I don’t get it!”

The Celtics on CLNS account on X took a video inside the Intuit Dome, giving fans watching the game at home some type of look at how bare the arena is just before tip-off. “Tip-Off for the first game is about to happen and this place is still pretty empty…” the account posted on X along with its video.

Mark Medina, who writes about the NBA for EssentiallySports and Athlon Sports, also posted a video showing numerous flickering lights inside the Intuit Dome. “At NBA All-Star game, Intuit Dome hosting more flickering lights than actual fans in the seats,” Medina wrote. “But much better attendance than Rising Stars and Saturday’s skill events. The Wall is full, too.”

Joe Schad, who writes about the NFL’s Miami Dolphins for the Palm Beach Post, had a short response to what he was seeing on TV: “Oh, no … Empty!”
NBA analyst Duncan Smith had a witty retort about the Intuit Dome being less than packed: “They could have played this game in the Disney Covid bubble.” Esfandiar Baraheni of The Athletic, who covers the NBA for the outlet, tossed in another sport when offering his thoughts on what he was seeing on Sunday: “This arena sounds like it’s watching Golf”.
Why, though, are there so many empty seats for one of the NBA’s premier events, especially in the Los Angeles metropolitan area? Well, Arash Markazi, founder of The Sporting Tribune, put it all in perspective in a post on X on Sunday afternoon.
“Whatever the attendance is like at today’s NBA All-Star Game just know there are over 20,000 basketball fans in Los Angeles that would love to go regardless of the 2 p.m. tip-off time, new format and injuries but can’t afford it when it costs over $900 for the cheapest ticket,” Markazi wrote.

Greg Beacham, who covers the Lakers and Los Angeles Rams for The Associated Press, added his two cents on the lack of attendance at the Intuit Dome.
“I’m not qualified to criticize attendance at NBA All-Star weekend because there’s basically no sports event or concert I would pay these types of resale prices for,” Beacham wrote on X. “The entire parasitic resale/fee economy would have to die before I’d put down a city or fans for saying nah we good”.

What’s evident from this feedback and the comments about Sunday’s activity at the Intuit Dome is that the NBA will likely have to go back and figure out what went wrong across the entire NBA All-Star Weekend experience.
