Harold Fannin Jr. Keeps Making a Strong TE1 Case

Cleveland Browns tight end Harold Fannin Jr. already showed he could handle a heavy workload as a rookie. He caught 72 passes for 731 yards and six touchdowns last season, leading the Browns in every major receiving category despite Cleveland finishing 31st in the league in passing offense. That production made him a Pro Bowl alternate and one of the most productive rookie tight ends in recent memory, and it came on the heels of a record-setting final college season at Bowling Green, where he set FBS tight end records with 117 catches for 1,555 yards.

David Njoku is with the Chargers now, and Fannin sits alone atop Cleveland’s tight end depth chart heading into 2026. The groin injury that ended his rookie season, a Grade 2 inguinal strain suffered catching a touchdown against the Steelers in Week 17 that ultimately kept him out of the season finale, required offseason surgery. Fannin has since been fully cleared and reported to training camp with the rookies and quarterbacks, saying he’ll be “full go” from day one. Head coach Todd Monken backed that up, saying Fannin “looked really good” in early practices.

Cleveland did add real competition for targets by drafting wide receivers KC Concepcion and Denzel Boston this offseason, so last year’s workload can’t simply be penciled back in. The quarterback situation remains unsettled as well, with Shedeur Sanders and Dillon Gabriel both having started games as rookies in 2025 and neither having a clear grip on the job entering this season.

Even accounting for that uncertainty, Fannin already proved capable of producing in one of the league’s worst passing environments, and he now has the tight end job entirely to himself for the first time in his career. He also earned a reputation as one of the NFL’s top security blankets as a rookie, tying for the league lead with 28 receptions coming while his quarterback was under pressure, according to Pro Football Focus, a trait that tends to translate well regardless of who’s throwing him the ball.

Draft Sharks has already tabbed Fannin as their pick to lead the Browns in targets again this season and projects him for mid-range TE1 fantasy numbers. That isn’t a bargain-basement price entering drafts, but given his track record, his expanded target competition is a real but manageable risk, and there’s still real room for him to outperform his current draft cost if Cleveland’s offense takes even a modest step forward.
