Cardinals News: Kendrick Bourne Solid Waiver Wire Pickup
Arizona Cardinals wide receiver Kendrick Bourne could be in line for a much bigger role after the team agreed to trade Marvin Harrison Jr. to the Houston Texans on Sunday.
Harrison was inactive for Sunday’s 45-21 loss to the Detroit Lions as the Cardinals worked to finalize the deal, and Bourne stepped into the extra work. He caught five of eight targets for 70 yards, leading the team in receiving yardage. Only tight end Trey McBride, who caught nine of 10 targets, saw more passes.
Bourne’s season numbers have been modest. Through five games, he has 17 catches for 178 yards on 22 targets and has not scored a touchdown. His usage has also swung widely from week to week. He opened the season with eight catches for 75 yards on eight targets against the Los Angeles Chargers, then drew just three targets in each of the next two games against Seattle and San Francisco. He was not targeted at all in Week 4 against the New York Giants.
The Harrison trade should help stabilize his role. Arizona received Houston’s 2027 second-round and sixth-round picks and sent a 2027 seventh-round pick to the Texans along with Harrison. Harrison never matched expectations as the No. 4 overall pick in 2024, and he has just five catches for 85 yards through four games this season. With him gone, Bourne figures to settle in as the clear No. 2 wide receiver behind Michael Wilson.
Plenty of competition remains for targets. Wilson has emerged as quarterback Jacoby Brissett’s top receiver, including a 17-target game against San Francisco in Week 3, and McBride remains a focal point at tight end. That limits how high Bourne’s weekly ceiling can climb.
Volume is on his side, though. Brissett has attempted 199 passes through five games, averaging 39.8 per game, and the Cardinals have often been playing from behind. Arizona is 1-4 after losing four straight games, and Brissett threw 47 passes against the Lions. That kind of passing volume should leave enough targets for a third option to produce.
The Cardinals visit the Los Angeles Rams on Sunday at SoFi Stadium. If Arizona trails again, Bourne should see steady work as one of Brissett’s primary targets.
Kendrick Bourne fantasy managers in deeper leagues can target him on the waiver wire as a flex option whose role is trending up. His production has been inconsistent so far this season, so he is best viewed as a depth piece for now, but Harrison’s departure gives him a clearer path to regular targets.
