Steelers Sign CB Tamon Lynum

The Pittsburgh Steelers signed CB Tamon Lynum, the team announced today. An undrafted rookie out of Pitt, Lynum took part in the Steelers’ rookie minicamp last weekend. He becomes the second tryout player from rookie minicamp the Steelers have signed, joining former Michigan C Greg Crippen.

Lynum began his college career at Nebraska, playing in 23 games over parts of four seasons. His best year with Nebraska came in 2023, when he appeared in 12 games and forced two fumbles while making 10 tackles. He transferred to Pitt ahead of the 2024 season and spent two years with the Panthers, making 34 tackles with two tackles for a loss, one sack, two interceptions, and eight passes defensed in 23 games.

Last season, his lone interception came in a convincing 30-13 win over Syracuse.

Per Pro Football Focus, Lynum logged over 90 percent of his career college snaps at outside corner, 804 of 888. He has minimal slot experience with just six inside, including zero in 2025.

“He’s what we call a thumper. He’s going to hit you,” Pitt head coach Pat Narduzzi said of Lynum via a 2024 Tribune-Review article. 

At his Pro Day, Lynum measured in at 6016 and 189 pounds with 32 3/4″ arms. He ran a 4.56 40-yard dash and posted a 9’5″ broad jump and 31 1/2″ vertical jump. With the Steelers, he now joins a cornerback room that includes fellow rookie Daylen Everette, though Lynum will likely be competing with the likes of Doneiko Slaughter and Donte Kent for one of the Steelers’ last cornerback spots.

Lynum will compete to stay on the roster throughout the rest of the offseason and into the summer. His best bet is likely to stick and grab a roster spot to begin the regular season. Impressing on special teams is always a helpful path to improve those odds. On paper, he has the size and demeanor the Steelers look for, which will only help his staying power.
