Kevin Durant has dealt with numerous issues throughout his career. While regarded as one of the greats in NBA history, he is equally known for his social media antics. Durant is often recognized for his controversial behavior on X, whether by stirring debate or engaging in heated exchanges with fans.
Former NBA player turned commentator Antonio Daniels recently argued that Durant’s latest social media scandal disrupted the Houston Rockets’ locker room dynamic.

How Kevin Durant’s Burner Account Scandal ‘Fractured’ the Rockets’ Locker Room
In February, reports surfaced that Durant created a burner account to criticize his Rockets teammates. The account, under the handle “@gethigher77” on X, posted comments that were quickly linked to him. While never officially confirmed, the account’s focus on Durant’s former teammates fueled speculation that it belonged to him.
The burner account later posted about Alperen Şengün and Jabari Smith Jr., claiming Şengün lacked consistency in shooting and defense, while using a slur to describe Smith Jr.
Daniels, who played 13 years in the NBA, revisited the controversy, noting its impact on the Rockets’ team morale.
“When you see this Houston Rockets team, you can see they’re fractured,” Daniels said. “I told you this when the Kevin Durant thing happened. The fact that KD never shut it down. The fact that he said, ‘You know what? It wasn’t me. I would not say that about my teammates.’ That will cause more issues than what you realize in a locker room.”

The Rockets’ energy has noticeably declined since the scandal. Early in the season, they held a spot among the top three teams in the Western Conference. As the 2025-26 season nears its conclusion, Houston now sits in sixth place, with the possibility of dropping to seventh.
The Rockets’ latest setback came in a collapse against the Minnesota Timberwolves on Wednesday. Houston held a 13-point lead in overtime but surrendered a decisive 15-0 run, capped by a Julius Randle game-winner.
Houston still had a chance to tie when Durant went to the line for two free throws, but after missing the first, he deliberately missed the second. The Rockets regained possession, only for the play to unravel on a poor inbound pass from Amen Thompson as the buzzer sounded.
With the postseason approaching, the team’s performance will be closely watched. Durant recently signed a two-year extension with the Rockets, meaning the franchise must find a way to move forward with the player many believe fractured its system.
