Jets Corner Hopes to Prove he’s no “One-Year Wonder”

One of the more curious developments this past offseason was the league’s lack of interest in free agent cornerback Nahshon Wright before the Jets came along.  The former Chicago Bear made the pro bowl in 2025 after intercepting five passes, taking one back for a touchdown while racking up 80 tackles.  That type of production from a player at a premium position would usually lead to a huge pay day.  For Wright, that wasn’t the case.

So why so little of interest in Wright?  Perhaps the lack ball production leading up to this past season.  Wright entered the league in 2021 as a member of the Dallas Cowboys before spending another season with the Vikings in 2024.  All told, the corner would play in 33 career games (3 starts) before intercepting a single pass.  In fairness to Wright however, he never saw the field on a full-time basis until last year when he broke out.

It was in week 1 that Wright picked up his first career interception, and all he did was take it back 74 yards for a touchdown in a the Bears’ 27-24 loss to start the season.

From that point on he would not only intercept four more passes, but was also credited with 11 passes broken up and a pair of forced fumbles.  Should he manage to win a starting job at 1 Jets drive this season and come away with that type of production, it will put to rest any doubts of him being a “one year wonder” and likely lead to the big pay day that didn’t materialize this offseason.
