Gabby Thomas has reacted to Houston Rockets player Kevin Durant’s take on responding to trolls on social media. Durant, a two-time NBA champion and one of the most influential players in the league’s history, is frequently targeted by social media trolls and criticisms.
However, Durant’s handling of these trolls is arguably cooler, as the 37-year-old is frequently seen engaging with them. The reason behind this act is that Durant had 200m Olympic champion Thomas in splits recently.
What Gabby Thomas Said Regarding Durant’s Reason for Responding to Trolls?
During a segment of Netflix Docuseries, “Starting 5,” Durant revealed that replying to his trolls on social media gives him a sign of “dopamine hit.” The Rockets player also added that he finds it weird that individuals who are not even connected with basketball give him advice on the sport. KD ended his monologue with the words, “Shut your a** up!”
The part of the docuseries resurfaced on X recently, which caught Thomas’ eye, and she couldn’t help but admit that she laughed out loud at Durant’s reason for answering the trolls. Reacting to the video, Thomas stated:
““People who never ran full speed in their life” oohmyg 😂😂😂”

Besides the social media spectrum in the track, Thomas has had to conclude her season early due to her Achilles injury. This injury also forced her to skip the World Championships held last month.
What Thomas Said About the Growth of Track and Field Amid the Onset of Athlos?
Thomas has expressed her appreciation for Alexis Ohanian’s Athlos’ contribution to the growth of track and field in recent years. Notably, Thomas was one of the primary star athletes who competed in Ohanian’s debut event in 2024.
Speaking about the event at the “CBS Mornings interview,” Thomas said that Ohanian’s major provision that stood out was the enhanced prize money he offered, which attracted more star power to the competition. She said:
“One thing he did was to increase the prize purse. I mean, when he rolled out Athlos last year in New York City, it was the largest prize purse in track and history. Since then, our sport has already changed.”

“Everyone else has increased the prize purse for the competition. That incentivizes athletes to show up. So now you have the stars showing up at these meets or showing up at Athlos.”
Notably, Thomas will be a significant component of Ohanian’s league-based Athlos scheme along with the likes of Sha’Carri Richardson and Tara Davis-Woodhall. The league-based Athlos is set to start in 2026.
