Report: Steelers Sign WR Isaiah Winstead

The Pittsburgh Steelers are signing WR Isaiah Winstead to their training camp roster. Winstead’s agency confirmed the news on Instagram with UFL reporter James Larsen also sharing the news.

Winstead spent the spring in the UFL playing for the Louisville Kings where he led the team in receiving yards (472) and finished second in receptions (29). He tied for the team lead with three touchdowns to help propel Louisville to a UFL title. Winstead’s birthday is August 9th, making the news a great gift to him. He’s now 26 years old.

He will take the place of Colton Dowell, who was waived by the Steelers Sunday after spending just 48 hours with the team.

Undrafted in 2023, Winstead has yet to appear in a regular season game. He’s spent time with several NFL clubs, and was first signed by the San Francisco 49ers after the 2023 draft. Winstead has also played for the New York Jets, and was summer teammates with QB Aaron Rodgers in 2024.

Much of his recent professional career has been spent with in other leagues. He first joined the UFL with the Arlington Renegades in 2024 and 2025 and spent time in the CFL for the BC Lions in 2025.

At his 2023 East Carolina Pro Day, he weighed in at 6031 and 210 pounds with long 33 5/8-inch arms. Poor testing hurt him, however, running a 4.77 40 yard dash combined with a 30 inch vertical, 9’10” broad, and 7.13 three cone time. He showed strength with 20 reps on the bench press, an especially impressive number given his long arms.

Winstead began his college career at Norfolk State before transferring to Toledo in 2020. He transferred again to East Carolina for the 2022 season where he caught 88 passes for 1,085 yards, and six touchdowns. That included a pair of 100 yard, one touchdown performances against Navy and Memphis.

Winstead will have an uphill battle to stick to even Pittsburgh’s practice squad but will have three preseason games to state his case.

The Steelers are slated to practice Monday and Tuesday with their preseason opener Thursday against the Green Bay Packers.
