The Kansas City Chiefs will finally get their best weapon back on the field.
Wide receiver Rashee Rice will make his season debut in Week 7 after serving a six-week suspension for violating the NFL’s personal conduct policy.
While head coach Andy Reid has hinted at taking things slowly with Rice as he works his way back, it now seems they’re ready to unleash him right away.
“The Chiefs won’t be easing Rashee Rice back into action. They will be allocating a heavy workload for him as soon as possible. Rice, who returns from suspension this week, has been in the building for weeks, had an excellent training camp and is in peak physical shape. A team source says Rice will be ‘full bore’ this week as he gets back onto the practice field,” Jeremy Fowler wrote.
Rice missed most of last season with a knee injury after breaking out in the second half of his rookie campaign.
Despite struggling on offense early in this season, the Chiefs reportedly didn’t want to trade for another wide receiver because they always thought that Rice was better than any potential reinforcement they could get.
After a long layoff caused by his actions, he will be extremely motivated to prove them right.
They will look to get him involved early and often against the Las Vegas Raiders, as the Chiefs will be at full strength on offense for the first time this season.
Xavier Worthy may move into a more suitable role, and it’ll be up to Marquise “Hollywood” Brown, JuJu Smith-Schuster and Tyquan Thornton to perform as the third wide receiver.
Patrick Mahomes also has Travis Kelce as an option, and Rice’s return will open up a lot of things for the Kansas City offense.
