During the game, Justin Jefferson became visibly frustrated on the sidelines. He then decided not to talk to the media after the loss, as Alec Lewis of The Athletic explains: “Vikings WR Justin Jefferson declined comment through team spokesperson.”
Can you blame him?
The Vikings’ elite WR1 was yet again held to modest stat totals due to the quarterback play being so poor. Sure, he did have that acrobatic touchdown catch alongside a few other catches. Far too often, though, were the passes high and hot, sailing over Jefferson’s head as he was left with no ability to corral the pigskin. Can this continue?
Vikings WR1 Justin Jefferson Appears Frustrated
Vikings QB1 Kyler Murray chatted about the Jefferson issues after the game, explaining that he understands why the receiver would get upset: “Obviously, he’s frustrated, and that’s understandable. He is who he is and he has every right to feel the way he feels when he doesn’t get the ball. So, again, that’s on us to find ways to get [him] the ball.”
So, too, did Kevin O’Connell take on the topic of Jefferson’s frustration, getting put on the spot with Minnesota’s receiver not talking to the media.
“We missed a couple of ’em high, if I remember right,” O’Connell reflected. Further from the skipper: “I don’t fault the frustration or the competitiveness in any way, shape, or form.” Consider, as well, that part of the issue is that Minnesota didn’t run a ton of plays on offense, a fair point from Coach O’Connell.

At the end of the game, the Vikings had suffered its first loss of the year with the scoreboard showing 19-15. Justin Jefferson finished the game with 9 targets going for 4 catches, 33 yards, and 1 touchdown. His longest catch of the day went for 9 yards.
Last season, Mr. Jefferson barely cleared 1,000 yards. His yardage totals were incredibly modest by his standards, sitting at a humdrum 61.6 yards per game for the season. Right now, Jefferson is averaging 55.8 yards per game, meaning his yard production is lesser in 2026 than it was last season.
Overall, Jefferson’s numbers show a receiver who is sitting on 28 catches for 335 yards and 4 touchdowns. The scoring total is the lonely encouraging number in the mix.
A major part of the conversation going forward will focus on what to do now. What’s taking place on offense can’t continue. Minnesota’s defense remains terrific. On Sunday, the special teams had a game to forget due the poor punts, missed field goal, and humdrum returns. However, that’s a part of the game with ample firepower.

At some point, the offense needs to come to the table, pulling its own weight. After all, Kevin O’Connell is moving into his fifth year as the head coach and is the playcaller on offense.
Oh, and another thing: the 27-year-old Justin Jefferson is still an elite football player. Minnesota’s lack of success in his time in the NFL has very little to do with his level of play. At some point, the Vikings need to equip him with a competent passer.
The Vikings’ next game will take place against the Buffalo Bills.
