Angel Reese opened the WNBA Finals with three straight double-doubles for the Atlanta Dream. That run ended in Game 4 on Saturday, when the Golden State Valkyries won 67-62 at State Farm Arena to even the best-of-seven series at 2-2.
A moment between Reese and a referee is now getting attention of its own. Fan page House of Lowlights is among those weighing in. It posted a clip of the exchange, and fans have asked why Reese’s clapping at the official did not draw a technical foul.
Angel Reese’s Clap at WNBA Official Sets Off the Criticism
The exchange came on an afternoon when little fell for Reese around the basket. Center Kiah Stokes led the Valkyries’ defense against her and finished with 16 rebounds and three blocks. At halftime Reese had five turnovers and three fouls, two of them offensive, and the Valkyries led 42-26.
Reese’s driving layup with 1:36 left was her first field goal since the second quarter. Reese finished with eight points on 2-for-12 shooting, nine rebounds and six turnovers. The Dream attempted 31 free throws to the Valkyries’ 13, and Reese went 4-for-6 at the line.
House of Lowlights shared the clip after the game with a one-line verdict: “Angel Reese is an insufferable child.”

“That clapping by Reese in the ref’s face should have been an instant technical foul. No excuse,” sports writer Corey Clayton wrote.

“She behaves that way because she knows there won’t be any consequences.”

A Fever fan page pointed to Caitlin Clark.
“So Angel Reese can clap in a WNBA referees face, and not receive a tech. Meanwhile Caitlin Clark received a tech for accidentally bumping into a referee.” It must be mentioned that the technical was also rescinded by the WNBA later.

Another sports page, Nitty Gritty Sports Talk, raised a comparison of their own in a reply to a different account.

After the game, Reese blamed herself for her performance.
“I think it was me, I think I rushed a lot on my shots and I didn’t take my time and finish around the basket like I’ve been doing the last three games.”
Those games included 30 points and 16 rebounds in Game 2 and 21 points and 12 rebounds in Game 3. The Dream won both. Reese said the Dream’s focus now is “just getting back to who we are, our identity, being the enforcers and just knowing who we are.”
When Reese draws a technical has been a question earlier in these playoffs, too.
On Oct. 9, the Dream won Game 3 of their semifinal series against the New York Liberty at Barclays Center in Brooklyn to clinch the series. During that game, Reese followed Liberty guard Sabrina Ionescu down the court after Ionescu committed an illegal screen.
No technical foul was called. A few minutes later, Reese got a technical after standing chest-to-chest with Jonquel Jones.

Before the Finals began, Indiana Fever guard Sophie Cunningham talked about the first play on her “No Hesitation” podcast.
“If you’re going to chase someone down the court and get in someone’s ear, that should be a tech. Anytime … But the fact that she didn’t get a tech on that, I think that’s absolutely insane.”
Reese and the Dream play next on Monday, when Game 5 tips off at 8 p.m. ET at Chase Center in San Francisco. The winner will be one victory from the championship.
