The right answers on defense

NASHVILLE, Tenn — The Jets beat up the Titans 23-10 on Sunday to open the season 1-0 for the first time since 2023. Here are some thoughts and observations from the game:

1. I wrote mostly about the offense’s performance on Sunday because it was impressive and they controlled the game, but the defense should not be overlooked. This was a dominant performance.

Some numbers:

• The Titans did not have a play longer than 14 yards
• The Titans had the ball for a total of 1 minute, 39 seconds in the second quarter and just 21 minutes overall.
• The Titans had 49 overall plays
• They went 4-for-12 on third down.

The defense did not make splash plays (yes, still no interceptions), but they were swarming Titans ball carriers and Titans QB Cam Ward did not look comfortable all day.
