The Terrible Podcast – Steelers-Falcons All-22 Recap, 3 OLB Usage, Visiting Tackles, Offensive Rankings & More

Season 17, Episode 23 of The Terrible Podcast is now in the can. In this Wednesday morning show, Alex Kozora and I get right into discussing a few things that Pittsburgh Steelers HC Mike McCarthy said during his Monday press conference. McCarthy was asked quite a few questions about CB Joey Porter Jr.’s status moving forward so we mostly focus on that part of his Monday press conference.

The Steelers brought in two free agent tackles for visits on Tuesday, so we make sure to hit that bit of minor news early in this show. We also discuss what we think the Steelers’ overall health outlook is heading into Week 2.

In the middle of this show, Alex and I get into talking about what the all-22 tape from the Steelers’ Week 1 win over the Atlanta Falcons revealed to each of us. We start on the defensive side of the football with our tape review and discuss ILB Payton Wilson’s outstanding play against the Falcons in addition to several other players on that unit who stuck out in positive ways.

The Steelers had three outside linebackers on the field for quite a few plays against the Falcons. Alex breaks down when their snaps came and likely why we saw those personal groupings as often as we did.

After finishing our tape review of the defense, Alex and I turn our attention to what we saw and learned about the Steelers offense against the Falcons. We focus on the play of the offensive line, both in the running game and passing game, and move on from there.

We talk a little about what we saw from Steelers WR Roman Wilson in Week 1 and how QB Aaron Rodgers attempted to push the football down the field against the Falcons on Sunday.

While there were several positives to take away from the Steelers’ offensive performance in Week 1, the advanced analytics in all the main categories still need to get better moving into the team’s Week 2 game against the New England Patriots.

Alex and I go over a few quick thoughts about the Steelers’ special teams play against the Falcons as we begin to wrap up this episode.

This 71-minute episode also discusses several other minor topics not noted in the recap above and we end this show by answering several emails we received from listeners.
