After Stephen Curry, Fever Star Caitlin Clark Reveals Her Pick for Spain-Argentina World Cup Final

Stephen Curry and the rest of the world have made their picks, but who does Caitlin Clark want to win the World Cup Final between Argentina and Spain?

This one’s not easy to predict, folks. Lionel Messi or Lamine Yamal? It feels like you can’t go wrong picking and rooting for either side, but Clark’s dug in with who she’s backing for Sunday’s matchup.

Caitlin Clark Sides With Lionel Messi and Argentina To Clinch the World Cup

Clark is viewed as one of the best WNBA players of her generation. Messi is viewed in the same light, only on the soccer pitch rather than the hardwood. Meanwhile, the 19-year-old Yamal hopes to reach the same heights someday, but he’s off to a great start.

As bright as the future may be for Yamal and Spain, this isn’t their year. Not according to Clark anyway. The Fever star revealed she’ll be rooting for Argentina because she’s a big fan of Messi.

“I’m cheering for Argentina,” Clark said. “I want Messi [to win]. So I’ll be cheering hard.”

Though Argentina is not viewed as a favorite by oddsmakers, they have Messi. Despite his age, the 39-year-old has helped his country to a second consecutive World Cup final, scoring 8 goals and providing 4 assists in the 2026 campaign.

The defending champions, Argentina, come up against a dominant Spain side, which has made it this far for a reason.

While millions of fans are set to tune in from all over the world, Clark continues to dominate the league, most recently breaking records with her 45-point performance against the Seattle Storm on Friday night.

The Fever star helped her team defeat the Storm 110-107 at Gainbridge Fieldhouse, recording 45 points, 10 assists, 4 steals, and shooting 11-for-18 from the field, including 6-for-10 from 3-point range.

This stat line made her the first player in WNBA history to record a 40-point, 10-assist game. Clark also broke Kelsey Mitchell’s franchise record of 38 points to set a new Fever single-game scoring mark.

She accomplished the feat in  29 minutes while still playing under a minutes restriction due to a lingering back issue.

Despite the 45-point explosion, she remained focused on her team’s championship ambitions.

“I mean, it’s cool. I don’t really care,” Clark said. “I know what I’m capable of, and I know what this team is capable of. And it’s my job to help us win and be the best team in the WNBA. And I don’t think we’re there yet. So it’s my responsibility to help us get there. So we’ll keep working.”

After Indiana’s win over the New York Liberty on Saturday, Clark and co. will look to keep their run going in a bid for their championship dream.
