The Pittsburgh Steelers have made several promotions and moves within their front office, per the team’s website. Although it does not appear the team has made any new hires, several already in the building are carrying new titles.
Tim Gribble, hired in January, officially has the title of senior director of college personnel. A Pittsburgh native, he returned home after a long stint with the Washington Commanders. Gribble was active on Pittsburgh’s Pro Day trail during March and made for a rare hiring at that part of the calendar. More often, teams make front office and scouting additions and subtractions after the draft. But Gribble became available and the Steelers wasted little time hiring him.
How Gribble’s role meshes with Dan Colbert, director of college scouting, is unclear.
Beyond Gribble, several personnel members have new titles. That’s shown below with their previous titles in parentheses.
Cole Marcoux – Senior Director of Football Strategy and Administration (Director of Football Administration)
Sheldon White – Senior Personnel Executive (Director of Pro Scouting)
Kelvin Fisher – Senior National Scout (Senior Scouting Assistant)
Max Gruder – Director of Pro Personnel (Assistant Director of Player Scouting)
Anthony Rooney – Scouting Assistant (Scouting Associate)
Jake Clancy also had his intern label dropped and now is simply Scouting Analytics.
Area scout Chris Watts’ name has been removed from the Steelers’ website. His departure was first reported after the draft, and he’s already taken a new job at the University of Texas. Scouting intern Keaton Hunt’s name also doesn’t appear on the website, meaning he’s presumably no longer with the Steelers. He was hired in 2024.
On titles alone, it can be difficult to tell the level of change in role each member has. It appears Gruder is in a more prominent position and leading the pro scouting department previously headed by White. Gruder was hired in 2024. A young face still in his 30s, he previously served as the Philadelphia Eagles’ director of pro scouting where he worked alongside current Steelers assistant general manager Andy Weidl. Gruder spent time with the Miami Dolphins on the pro scouting side, too, after finishing his football career playing linebacker at Pitt.
Marcoux assumed much of Omar Khan’s duties after he was hired as Pittsburgh’s general manager in May 2022. Marcoux works on contracts and the business side of things and will be busy throughout the summer as the team works toward extensions with CB Joey Porter Jr., TE Darnell Washington, EDGE Nick Herbig, and/or DL Keeanu Benton. The tweak in his title to a senior role may just reward him for time spent in the organization, though the “strategy” label in his new title is notable.
Fisher is a longtime scout whose title change seems to be a small tweak in role. Rooney, whose uncle was Dan Rooney, was hired as an intern in 2023. Typically, Pittsburgh’s internships don’t last more than two seasons, which fits the timeline of him – and Clancy, hired in 2024 – shedding their intern labels for something more permanent.
Per the team website, which comes with a caution of being slow to update information, the Steelers have made no new hires in their scouting department. It’s possible additions could come later this offseason, and the front office page often gets updated again in August.
Football researcher Krithi Chandrakasan still doesn’t appear on the team website despite his reported hiring last season and his LinkedIn profile that shows him as a present member of the organization.
