Sitting behind Deshaun Watson has left Shedeur Sanders with almost no playing time this season, and the longer he stays on the bench, the louder the questions about his future become.
His recent decision to hire an agent has added to the trade chatter, but former NFL MVP Cam Newton has a specific destination in mind if Cleveland decides to move on from the young quarterback.
Cam Newton Names Dolphins as Ideal Shedeur Sanders Trade Destination
Speaking on “4th&1” with Cam Newton, Newton named the Miami Dolphins as his preferred landing spot for Sanders.
Miami’s struggles and uncertainty at quarterback make it a destination where Newton believes the young quarterback could get a genuine evaluation rather than remain on the bench in Cleveland.
“So now Shedeur is saying, ‘Hey, man, I just need an opportunity to show that I can.’ So where should he go? First and foremost, I go Miami. Miami is at the top of my list. Because they’re 0-5,” Newton said.
He explained that his recommendation was not simply about Miami’s current record. He sees the situation as a chance for the Dolphins to assess their options and make decisions that could shape the franchise’s future.
“It’s not because they’re a bad football team now. It’s because of what the future holds,” Newton said.

He also questioned whether the team’s existing quarterback options had done enough to establish themselves. Newton acknowledged Malik Willis’ athletic ability but argued that the Dolphins need results and better ball security before committing to their long-term direction. He believes competition could help determine which quarterback deserves that opportunity.
“Now, we need some type of audition league, and competition is going to bring out the best in all of us,” Newton said. “Because we need some real wins. Now, we ain’t worried about this season more so than whether we can build with you for the future. So, the Miami Dolphins will be my first pick.”
Watson, who ranks 23rd on PFN’s NFL QB Impact, was named Cleveland’s starter before the season and led the Browns to three straight wins following the Week 1 loss to Jacksonville before Cleveland fell to the Jets in Week 5.

Meanwhile, Sanders has barely seen the field this season. His decision to hire agent Adie von Gontard has added to the speculation, although the Browns reportedly have no active plans to trade Sanders or Dillon Gabriel.
Sanders has spoken about being misjudged by people. In an October interview with Cosmopolitan, he said, “I wish people understood me more as a human being. I don’t think a lot of people really know me. I’m just now starting to understand that.”
For Newton, however, the priority is giving Sanders a real chance to compete.
Whether Cleveland considers a trade remains uncertain, but Miami is the destination Newton believes could offer the quarterback a path toward a larger role.
